The new week is just around the corner, but before that, let’s take a look back at the last seven days. The editors of iPhoned have listed the best iOS apps, games and updates from last week.
Last week’s best iPhone apps
The Apple App Store is working overtime every week. New apps, updates to existing applications and games appear all the time. You probably don’t notice this much, because most of the programs are not worth downloading. iPhoned therefore separates the wheat from the chaff every Sunday. Here are the best iOS apps, updates, and games from last week.

Quill
Quill takes on apps like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and other business apps. Quill wants to bring peace back to digital communication, with an app specially designed for that. The app does this by distinguishing between the types of channels that anyone can create. In the so-called Structured channels you can clearly talk about specific topics because every conversation consists of a thread.
Just want to chat with colleagues? Then you can open a social channel that behaves more like a traditional chat conversation. Quill is free to try and available for small teams, larger teams pay a monthly fee. In addition to iOS and macOS, the app is also available for Android, Windows and Linux.

Overcast
The popular podcast app Overcast has received a major update for the Apple Watch. You can now more easily sync podcasts that are stored locally on the watch, which is useful, for example, if you work out without an iPhone in your pocket and still want to listen to something.
The entire design of the Watch app has also been overhauled. This makes the buttons easier to tap on the small screen of the watch. That immediately makes Overcast a valuable alternative for people who like to listen to podcasts via their smart watch.
Museum Alive
Now that museums are closed, luckily there are apps like Museum Alive. Voiced by David Attenborough, this educational app turns your living room or bedroom into a digital museum. The app uses augmented reality to place virtual objects in the real world, which you can then walk around.
The app lets you choose from three fossils, after which you and Attenborough go in search of the story behind these animals. The app requires iOS 13 and an iPhone X or newer to work and can be downloaded for a one-time fee of 3.49 euros.
Survival Z
Apple Arcade has added an entertaining new game in the form of Survival Z. The Z clearly stands for ‘Zombies’ as this action game is teeming with them. In over fifty levels, you choose from fifteen playable characters and try to keep the hordes of undead off your body.
Gradually you collect upgrades that make you stronger and you can also recruit teammates. You need an Apple Arcade subscription to play this game. You can try Apple’s game service for free, but then pay five euros per month.
