Countless international apps appear every month, but apps and updates are also released continuously in the Netherlands. In this monthly overview we list the best Dutch apps of February.
“Kamergotchi, a game for the concerned voter”, is how Zondag met Lubach’s app describes itself. It is no coincidence that the name is very similar to Tamagotchi. In the simple game you are assigned a politician, who you must then take care of. A bar at the bottom of the screen that runs from red to green shows how satisfied the politician is with you. You can increase this percentage by giving your Kamergotchi food, attention or knowledge.
After a few taps, your mini-politician is fed up and suspends your appointment for six minutes. With speech balloons, the cartoonish figure lets you know what he or she needs most. By meeting these wishes you keep the figure alive, so that the counter at the bottom right of the screen continues to increase.
Does that one table or lamp look beautiful in your home? With the new app from Bol.com you can access them via augmented reality ‘testing’ in your home before you buy. The program was created by INDG, which created the Amikasa app that allows you to furnish homes. You give access to the camera and then virtually place objects in the room. The intention is that you view articles in this way as if they were in your home. This way, as a customer, you avoid having to return items if they turn out not to match the rest of the interior.
After starting the app you will see six categories of articles: tables, armchairs, dining room chairs, sofas / seats, cabinets and lamps. By tapping on one of them, you will enter a new screen where multiple products are shown in a honeycomb-like design.
Where’s Wally? Search pictures are timeless, but with Hidden Folks, the puzzle genre is only really making the step to the iPhone and iPad. It results in one of the nicest and most original iPhone games at the moment. The idea is childishly simple: at the bottom of the screen you see the figures and objects that you have to find in a huge mess that appear on the rest of your screen. This doesn’t sound exciting, but the graphic style and sound effects make it happen. The Hidden Folks search images are much more than a static drawing.
Each level is a world in itself, in which you can see dozens of figures come to life. In the jungle landscape, monkeys jump through the treetops, campers sit around a campfire and a couple sail in a boat across the river. Just looking closely at a picture to find all Hidden Folks isn’t enough either. You will really have to investigate, zooming in and out and seeing which objects are hiding a secret.
After installing the update of the ING Banking app, you can also install the ING app for iMessage via the Messages app. After installation you can easily send a payment request to someone or a group conversation. Handy if you still have money left after a night out with friends.
Without leaving the Messages app, enter your amount, choose a category (pizza, film, drink) and the ING app creates a special url. The others can click on this link to be forwarded directly to a page. Here they can transfer the amount due to your account.
SpellTower is not a real Dutch app, but a Dutch version of the popular game has been available since this month. It is a fantastic puzzle game that is all about word formation. A tower is built of letters on the screen and it is up to the player to make correct words with those letters. These words then disappear from the screen. This is necessary, because the blocks may not touch the top, just like in Tetris.
This separate version of the app also immediately has all the new functions of the renewed SpellTower 4.0. In particular some new modes. The new Zen mode works like the standard Puzzle mode, but without having to make long words. There is also a multiplayer mode.
