The week is over and that means that a fresh app overview is waiting for you! As far as we are concerned, you should not miss these new apps, games and updates. You can find the best iOS apps from week 12 (2018) here.
The best iOS apps at a glance
The App Store works overtime every week to handle the never-ending stream of new apps and updates. However, you will hardly notice this, because only a small part of it is worth installing. If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch can use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.
1. Magic Lasso
Magic Lasso is an app that enables ad blocking in Safari, on both your iPhone and Mac. For this the Material blocks function of Safari is used. This means that the app uses hardly any memory, saves battery and in many cases speeds up the loading of pages.
Where Magic Lasso excels over other adblock apps for Safari is that the app is free to use. Magic Lasso’s biggest competitors, Purify and 1Blocker, are both paid apps. The makers of Magic Lasso also promise that the basic functions of the app will remain free to use, although they do not exclude a paid version with extra features.

2. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG)
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG for short) is a phenomenon. First the game exploded on the PC, later a version for game console Xbox One was released and now you can simply play the full game on your smartphone.
In PUBG you jump out of a plane over an island together with 99 other players. When you land, you need to find weapons and armor to defend yourself as quickly as possible. The playing field is being made smaller and smaller, so that you will meet other players anyway. The goal is to be last. Then you get ‘Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!’ in the picture and the whole story starts again.

3. Nightly
According to a 2017 study by Multiscope, six in ten Dutch people experience sleeping problems. They find it difficult to sleep through all at once and often find it difficult to rest. Several apps are available for these people, including Nightly. This app is aimed at improving sleep and learning a healthy sleep rhythm. As a critic, we would never like to add that some sleep experts and scientists are of the opinion that smartphones in the bedroom are out of the question.
When you go to sleep, start the app and activate ‘sleep mode’. The screen is now completely black, so you can no longer be distracted. In addition, the app reduces the risk of nightmares. When he notices that you are restless, for example because you are rolling a lot, he plays specific audio fragments. These should calm you down again, while you are sleeping.

4. Google Maps
Version 4.47 of Google Maps now shows the waiting times at more than a million restaurants in the world. By searching for a restaurant and requesting more information, you will see a graph. In this graph, blue bars indicate how busy it is on average, with an additional indication for the busiest time of the day and the average waiting time.
From now on you can also more easily browse through different reviews of locations. This way you can sort reviews by various factors and ratings. That way you not only know what the positive stories say, but you can also look up the opinions of critical eaters.

5. Instagram
Instagram has changed the order in which messages are displayed. From now on you will see more recent photos and videos at the top of your timeline. A refresh button is also introduced, so that your feed does not refresh on its own. New messages are therefore not by definition at the top again, as was the case in the past.
The ‘New messages’ button gives you more control over when you want to download the most recent photos, videos and stories. When you press it you will be sent to the top of your feed. If you don’t, nothing will happen and you can keep scrolling. In the coming months, more will be improved on the Instagram timeline, but what exactly is not yet known.
