The week is over and that means that a fresh app overview is waiting for you! As far as we are concerned, you should not miss these new apps, games and updates. You can find the best iOS apps of week 15 (2018) here.
The best iOS apps at a glance
The App Store works overtime every week to handle the never-ending stream of new apps and updates. However, you will hardly notice this, because only a small part of it is worth installing. If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch can use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.
1. iMovie
If you have an iPhone X, iMovie is finally suitable for the longer screen of your device. The app is one of the last apps from Apple itself that has been made suitable for the iPhone X. Thanks to the update, the app runs across the entire screen, without the black bars along the side that you saw before the update. That is handy, because more screen space is nice if you work on a touchscreen.
The latest update for iMovie also adds support for Metal, Apple’s API for graphics performance. Metal allows apps to communicate faster with graphics hardware, resulting in better performance. Editing videos in 4K is therefore no problem on the iPhone X, with this update.
2. NS Travel Planner
When you are on a crowded train, it often turns out that there is still a seat on the other side of the train, if you search carefully. With the so-called ‘seat finder’ of the NS Travel Planner app, you can now easily check where you can still sit on the train. The app indicates how busy it is in the different parts of a train with colored lines. With green there is still enough space, orange indicates that the seating areas are limited and with a red line the train section is completely full.
To this end, the NS app uses various sensors in the train, which measure the weight per carriage. Based on the weight, the application then determines how many travelers are present in a specific train section. In the future, the system will be used to ‘measure’ how many travelers are present.
3. Juke
Juke, the new music service from Talpa and MediaMarkt, is now officially available after a beta version was launched last year. In addition to access to around fifty million issues, Juke has an assortment of editors. These are mostly bn’ers such as Ilse DeLange and Armin van Buuren, who not only offer their own music, but also create playlists for you. So you no longer have to look for music yourself, but you can always contact the Juke editors if you are looking for something new.
One of the advantages that Juke has over the competition is that you can also listen to Dutch radio stations. These are the channels owned by Talpa, including the public broadcaster. You will not find regional channels in Juke. In addition, you can go to physical MediaMarkt stores if you need help with your account. It is also nice that Juke has support for Google’s Chromecast.
4. Wikipedia
The Wikipedia app is almost indispensable on your iDevice. Besides that you have access to all articles, the application also has some nice features. One of these is a list that you receive daily based on your personal preferences. In addition, Wikipedia employees (or volunteers) daily select more general articles that you should not miss.
To complete the personal edge, we also look back daily to what happened in history on this specific day. The ‘Nearby’ function is also a nice addition. Relevant articles are shown on a map of your environment. Finally, the app has a night mode, where the theme turns black. Reading articles thus becomes a lot more pleasant for your eyes.
Fabulous
Everyone knows that forming new habits can be quite difficult. Fortunately, there are plenty of apps that can help you with that, and Fabulous is one of them. In a beautifully designed app you enter what you want to change, after which you then click on a true one journey is going to change that habit.
For example, the app reminds you to prepare a glass of water before going to sleep if your goal is to drink more water. All goals in the app are related to a healthier life, but also help you when you have trouble sleeping or concentrating.
