The week is over and that means that a fresh app overview is waiting for you! As far as we are concerned, you should not miss these new apps, games and updates. You can find the best iOS apps from week 21 (2018) here.
The best iOS apps at a glance
The App Store works overtime every week to handle the never-ending stream of new apps and updates. However, you will hardly notice this, because only a small part of it is worth installing. If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch can use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.
1. Dropbox
The latest Dropbox update makes collaborating with colleagues a lot easier. Among other things, you can immediately see what everyone is doing and leave feedback faster. It becomes more convenient to keep track of what your colleagues (or classmates) are currently doing. From now on you can see at a glance per file who has made changes.
Secondly, the chat system has also been overhauled. Here you can, for example, leave directions for colleagues or give feedback. Before the update, you had to go to a separate window to send messages. Dropbox has also added a home screen, where you can see at a glance what your team is doing.
2. HomeScan
From smart lights to door locks and roller blinds: slowly but surely we are encountering Apple’s HomeKit platform more and more in and around the house. HomeScan for HomeKit is therefore very useful when a lamp or thermostat does not work properly. This simple app has a clear goal: to help you get all your HomeKit equipment working properly again.
As soon as you start the app, a list with all your bluetooth HomeKit devices will appear. Then you can walk around the house with the app active on your iPhone. The reception number starts at zero and then shows the signal strength when you walk from your HomeKit hub to an accessory. The closer your device gets to 0, the better. If you find out that a device has poor range, you can also use the app to find a location with a better signal.
3. Tinyclouds
Tinyclouds is essentially a very simple weather app for one euro. The app shows the current weather forecast, provides a forecast for the rest of the day and for the rest of the week. What sets Tinyclouds apart from the handful of competing weather apps is its original design. The first thing you see when you open the app is a 3D animation of a city, which continuously adapts to the weather.
Instead of looking at a number, with Tinyclouds you can see what the weather is and will be in a glance at this digital city. The app adapts to your location, and you can also add multiple locations to quickly switch between different weather forecasts. Tinyclouds especially wants to make it fun to watch the weather, something the app succeeds in thanks to the colorful city.
4. Gemini Photos
Gemini Photos promises to clean up your photos through machine learning. If you start the app, you must of course first give access to your photos. This is necessary to scan them. Gemini Photos promises that your images will only be analyzed locally and not uploaded to another location.
The app scans in two ways. First of all, similar photos are selected. Before deleting these photos, you can scroll through them to see if you agree. Safer are the photos that the app calls ‘Junk’. Here you will be presented with blurry photos, notes and screenshots. What you have to be careful with is that the app has a button in the settings menu to delete your entire photo library.
5. NS Travel Planner
If you travel by train, a good NS Travel Planner should not be missing on your iPhone. The Dutch Railways have packed a freight train of functions into the app, but fortunately they are clearly packaged. This way you can of course plan your trip, but you also stay informed of disruptions, work, news and services such as the OV-fiets and NS Zonetaxi.
The NS Travel Planner comes in handy both in the train and at the station. This way you can see exactly what the layout is per station and which facilities are available. You can also see all trains that are currently driving in the Netherlands on a map. You open the Train Radar by opening the menu and tapping on ‘Train Radar’. In addition, a notification function has been added in which you can report how busy your train is.
