The 5 best iOS apps in the App Store from week 51 – 2018

The week is over and that means that a fresh app overview is waiting for you! As far as we are concerned, you should not miss these new apps, games and updates. You can find the best iOS apps from week 51 here.

The best iOS apps at a glance

The App Store works overtime every week to handle the never-ending stream of new apps and updates. However, you will hardly notice this, because only a small part is worth installing. If your iPhone or iPad can use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.

1. Gone Home

After a year of traveling you finally come home to Gone Home, but your family is nowhere to be seen. You investigate in the game, and by searching every corner, room and hallway you will gradually learn more and more about what happened to your family members.

It is one of the first ‘walking simulators’ in the App Store, and was released for consoles a few years ago. All in all, playing the game only takes a few hours, but you will be completely drawn into the story that you have to solve yourself.

2. Fundalert

The Dutch housing market is quite overheated, especially in the large cities. Home seekers therefore work overtime on services such as Funda to find the ideal home for sale. With Fundalert that is no longer necessary, because the app does exactly what Funda forgot to add to its own app. If interesting houses are added for you, you will receive a warning.

This way you are always at the front of the queue for viewings and bids. Set your preferences based on price, location, number of rooms and surface. As soon as a house appears on Funda that meets your wish list, you will receive a push notification.

3. Facebook Messenger

Thanks to the update of Facebook Messenger, it no longer matters whether your iPhone supports portrait mode or not. The messaging app has added a ‘fake’ portrait mode, so you can shoot a photo with a bokeh effect of someone with any iPhone.

Using software similar to the one Apple uses for the iPhone XR’s single camera lens, the app collects depth information and recognizes the people. Based on this, a blur is added to the image. Instagram’s Boomerang feature and augmented reality stickers in photos and videos are also new.

4.3FM Serious Request

3FM Serious Request has started again. This year, three teams of 3FM DJs will travel from action to action from three different locations in the Netherlands. In the application you can find exactly where the walking radio DJs are located and you can watch all fragments of their ‘pilgrimage’.

Also handy: everywhere you will find buttons to donate directly or to request a picture. By requesting a record for 5, 10, 15 or more euros, you support the action and also ensure that one of your favorite songs is played. Another big part of the annual promotion is the auction. Easily browse through all the auction items, such as a signed guitar by Jason Mraz, a game of darts with rapper Donnie or Niki Terpstra’s cycling outfit.

Twitter

Twitter is rolling out an update that will make a lot of people happy. It is now possible to view messages in reverse chronological order. The newest messages are shown at the top of your timeline again.

Twitter responds this way to the criticism of recent years. Many users were not satisfied with the display order of tweets, where messages were not shown on time, but in relevance. To get new tweets back to the top of your timeline, tap the asterisks at the top right in the most recent version of the app.
