The 5 best iOS apps in the App Store from week 7 – 2018

The week is over and that means that a fresh app overview is waiting for you! You should not miss these new apps, games and updates. You can find the best iOS apps from week 7 (2018) here.

The best iOS apps at a glance

The App Store works overtime every week to handle the never-ending stream of new apps and updates. However, you will hardly notice this, because only a small part of it is worth installing. If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch can use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.

1. Hater

Looking for a dating app that takes it all less sugary? Then you are the perfect audience for Hater. This app matches people based on the things they really hate. Hater presents you with countless positions, after which you show by swiping left or right whether you hate it or not.

Then an algorithm matches you with someone who hates the exact same things. Valentine’s Day for example. The app works almost the same as Tinder, where you swipe people to the right if you feel a match, and swipe left if you don’t find someone.

2. WhatsApp

The iOS version of WhatsApp has been updated to version 2.18.22, which adds two new features. For example, it is now possible to quickly switch to a video call, when you use the normal calling function. The option to quickly switch to the video calling function during an audio call is useful, because previously you had to end the call and start the video call ‘separately’. Now you can activate the video calling function directly from the call by tapping the middle button (‘Video calling’).

Also new is the @ button. When you tap on this, you will immediately see all unread messages in which your name is mentioned. This only applies within group conversations. The feature is useful when you still have to read dozens of messages in a group conversation, but only want to know what is important to you. We don’t see the button on our own iPhones yet, but will gradually be rolled out to everyone.

3. Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition

The latest installment of the acclaimed Final Fantasy series has made its way to the App Store. Square-Enix has opted for a full remake, with its own style and a more streamlined experience. Although the characters now suddenly look very strange, the game is more than worth it.

When you start a Final Fantasy game, you know you can expect a great adventure and FFXV: Pocket Edition is no different. You go on a journey as Prince Noctis and his comrades, but you soon end up in a war after which the story goes in all sorts of crazy directions. The combat system is fun with counter attacks and the ability to jump away from an attack just in time. You also activate special attacks from your friends to do extra damage.

4. Peak

In addition to keeping your body fit, your brain also needs a workout to stay clear. Peak helps you with this, with a series of mini games that keep your brain sharp and alert without being too difficult. The games you can play focus on the different functions of your gray matter, including your memory, insight and concentration.

If you’re tired of just playing against yourself, you can compete with other players too. The app pits you against other Peak players of your age category to keep the competition fair. In addition, the app reminds you every day to do a workout, so that you always stay sharp.

5. Moleskine Actions

Moleskine Actions is the new to-do app from the same makers as Timepage, voted the best calendar app in the App Store in 2016. It was made for the busy bees among us: people whose brains are always on and one idea after another comes to mind. The app makes writing down tasks and ideas easy, works intuitively and also saves you time.

The most striking feature is the fact that the app understands ‘normal’ language and therefore everything works very naturally. When you indicate that you have to water the plants every Friday, the app understands this and automatically places the task in the calendar. If desired, you can add details, such as a specific time. Unfortunately, the app is not available in Dutch. Typing commands must therefore be done in English or German. Please note: the app costs about one euro per month and can only be tried out for free.
