The best iOS apps of week 6 at a glance
The App Store works overtime every week to handle the never-ending stream of new apps and updates. You don’t notice that much, however, because only a fraction of it is worth installing. If your iPhone can use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.
WhatsApp has made two-step verification available to all users. This adds extra strong security to your account. By enabling the two-step verification, you must enter an access code when registering a phone number in WhatsApp. This code is separate from WhatsApp, making it extra difficult for a hacker to access your data. Go to ‘WhatsApp> Settings> Account> 2-Step Verification’ to activate the feature.
Stagehand seems like a traditional platformer for iOS, but it is quite different from what you know. That’s because you don’t control the protagonist Frank, but the world around him. Frank runs automatically and continues to do so until he falls into the depths, runs into a wall or is hit by large spiky balls. To make sure that doesn’t happen, slide the platforms under him. Swipe up a platform at a momentum and Frank makes a jump. As a player you automatically get better at this, so that your high scores are always higher.
ING is the first Dutch bank to support Apple’s messaging service iMessage. From now on, you can easily send payment requests to each other via the ING iMessage app. Handy if you still have money left after a night out with friends. Without leaving the Messages app, enter the amount, choose a category (pizza, film, drink) and the ING app creates a special url. The others can click on this link to be taken directly to a page where they can transfer the amount due to your account.
You’ve probably wondered what to watch for a movie tonight. The offer is huge, but making a choice or discovering new films can be difficult. Popcorn therefore tries to serve you films that you have not yet seen. Then you can categorize them in a Tinder-like way. You then have four options: add to your watch list, mark as seen, delete if you do not want to see it and postpone the choice.
Chameleon Run, the free App of the Week, is a colorful endless runner. You take on the role of a cheerful figure who runs over brightly colored beams and makes dizzying jumps. The trick here is to continuously adopt the same color as the bar you land on. This starts very simple, but quickly becomes quite a challenge. For example, you have to quickly change color in the middle of a jump. A wrong move and you will be irrevocably returned to the start of the level.
News app Flipboard has received a significant update. Flipboard 4.0 adds a completely new design, with articles about your interests in smart digital magazines. First of all, you will be presented with the well-known categories, such as photography, sports, travel or gaming. We also know these categories from other apps, but they are so general that you still regularly see messages that do not interest you. That is why subcategories have now also been added, so that you can indicate exactly what you like within the category.
Does that one table or lamp look beautiful in your home? With the new app from Bol.com you can ‘test’ them in your home via augmented reality before you buy. After starting the app you will see six categories of articles: tables, armchairs, dining room chairs, sofas / seats, cabinets and lamps. By tapping on one of them, you will enter a new screen where multiple products are shown in a honeycomb-like design.
Facebook has added an extensive weather forecast to the iOS app. For months, the social network at the top of your timeline has been showing whether it will rain or snow. By tapping on these notifications from now on, an extensive weather forecast for the coming days will open. The weather overview is hidden in the other section of the app. In the future it should be possible to set notifications for the weather forecast.
The old puzzle game Spelltower gets a whole new life. Not only with a major update, but also by offering a Dutch version with SpellTower Dutch. A tower is built of letters on the screen and it is up to the player to make correct words with those letters. These words then disappear from the screen. This is necessary, because the blocks may not touch the top, just like in Tetris.
