Of course you can think doom and gloom about climate and environment, but you can also do something about it! Even if it is only with something small like a conscious choice when purchasing a new watch. The exclusive Limited Edition #Tide watches from Fossil are made entirely from discarded plastic that has been removed from rivers. This way you look super stylish and you help to clean up nature. Make a ripple!
Limited Edition Fossil Watches to Celebrate Earth Day
Fossil is releasing two to 600 (unnumbered) limited watches for Earth Day this year. These are exclusive watches that will not be included in the regular assortment and will only be available at selected stores, of which Techzle is one!
These are two Fossil FB-01 solar watches made of Tide Ocean plastic. This material is recycled PET that is certified and documented and reclaimed from European waterways and is given a second life.
Who are Tide Ocean and why do they exist?
The ocean is swarming with plastic pollution. Solutions are urgently needed, otherwise the ocean will contain more plastic than fish by 2050. Fortunately, more and more initiatives are emerging to do something about this.
On a small scale, there is, for example, Foekje Fleur, who makes molds for vases from bottles that have been fished out of the Maas. And we all know the Ocean Clean Up by Boyan Slat, who wants to filter the plastic soup from the ocean. He also recently came to the conclusion that it is better to collect the waste at the source before it flows into the sea: the large rivers.
The Swiss Tide Ocean SA is a new international company that also wants to tackle pollution at the source. As an upcycling company, they use an innovative method to convert waste plastic captured from rivers into a new premium raw material. These granules are used in plastic for watches, furniture, electronic devices, car parts and any other type of hard plastic product. Fossil is one of the ‘changemaker’ partners of Tide Ocean.
Not only responsible, but also beautiful!
The Fossil #Tide watch will be released in two versions: the FS5911 and the FS5893.
The FS5911 has a semi-transparent case with a black bezel. The comfortable fabric strap – also made of recycled plastic fiber – features the Tide Ocean motto: Make a ripple. This motto is also reflected on the dial with the structure of a water ripple. The crown and buckle of the watch are provided with an iridescent plating.
The FS5893 also features the ripple on the dial. Furthermore, this watch is completely finished in blue, which makes the luminous hands and hour indices really pop.
Both watches are 10 ATM water resistant, so you can jump into the river with confidence to fish out litter. For example on World Cleanup Day in September. And the battery of the solar watch is charged by sunlight and artificial light, so you don’t have to replace disposable batteries.
Both #Tide watches come in a specially designed Earth Day Fossil tin.
