“So. And now that shit is over”

For months, the rumors about the iPhone 14 flew around our ears. How much of it was correct we got last week, during the Far Out-event, officially. A lot of rumors were true, but some of the noises were as false as a cat.
In The Grain of Salt OMT editor Mark Hofman presents you with the most recent rumors every week. In this edition we do it a little differently. Welcome to The Grain Error.
The Grain Error: iPhone 14 rumors that were completely wrong
The warning “take it with a grain of salt” is there for a reason. While we encountered an impressive number of correct predictions in the past year, there were also stories that completely missed the mark. And while on the one hand I provide you with stories that are probably correct, I also feel compelled to let the wrong predictions pass by.
The iPhone 14 has a lot to offer consumers, but the following five things are not part of it:

#1 Ultra-Wide gets an upgrade
Although Ming-Chi Kuo is usually right, the analyst is sometimes wrong. In November 2020, he already made a statement about the Ultra-Wide camera of the iPhone 14. According to the analyst, it would be an f/1.8 lens with six elements and autofocus. While the camera of the regular iPhone 14 has indeed been upgraded, his prediction was not entirely correct.
The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus carry an Ultra-Wide camera with f/2.4 and a five element lens. The 14 Pro and Pro Max do it with an Ultra-Wide with f/2.2 and a six element lens.
#2 The iPhone 14 Max
For months we already knew that Apple would come on the market with a larger model of the iPhone 14. His name didn’t seem to be a surprise anymore, though. Until a week before the official announcement, the name was called iPhone 14 Max. Still, doubts arose and certain sources decided to change course.
A rumor that has been corrected by some, but to which others have stuck firmly. The 14 Plus is in any case officially a fact and in the article below you can read what my first impression of the device was:
#3 WiFi 6E support
Damn, this rumor goes back a while. Around the launch of the iPhone 12, people talked about WiFi 6E support. When this eventually failed to materialize, the rumor moved to the iPhone 13, which in turn also ignored support. You guessed it: the rumor packed its bags again and decided to seek refuge with the iPhone 14.
WiFi 6E takes WiFi 6 to a slightly higher level. For example, it works better in busy places and there is more delay in the connection. An ideal solution that Apple, even with its most recent smartphones, does not seem to use.
#4 iPhone 14 with 2TB storage capacity
With a much improved camera system, the consumer could use more storage capacity. At least that was the idea of DigiTimes early in the process. The iPhone 14 could therefore be equipped with a 2TB option.
In practice, this turns out differently and consumers can get started with a maximum of 1TB.

#5 Titanium Premium Model
There was a glimmer of hope, courtesy of a report from JP Morgan Chase, that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max would become even more exclusive. Reportedly, Apple had plans to make the smartphones completely out of Titanium.
During the day Far Out however, this step was not discussed and it became clear that Apple is using the same materials as last year.
