The Ice Master app shows where you can safely skate on natural ice

With temperatures well below zero and a snow-covered landscape, skating enthusiasts are getting itchy again. With this app you can check where you can and cannot skate on natural ice.

Skating on natural ice: check it with this app

Now that many skating rinks are still closed, more and more skating enthusiasts are looking for natural ice. If it’s frozen long enough, it’s a safe alternative, provided you know where to go and where not to go.

The IJsmeester app comes in handy here. The free iOS application looks based on your location where the nearest natural ice is located. An enthusiastic group of users themselves report when they come across skateable ice.

The number of reports is critically examined. For example, a frozen puddle of water will have a red icon with a few notifications. Then it is still advisable to be very careful on the ice. Once the number of reports about the same location increases, the color will eventually change to a green icon.

Because so many reports have come in at that location, it is a lot more certain that the ice there is thick enough to skate on safely.

Report natural ice yourself via the app

Of course you can also report yourself if you come across natural ice. With the push of a button you pass on a message and a pin is placed on the card. You can add the name of the location, indicate how thick the ice is in centimeters and what type of ice skating it is.

For example, are you standing near a lake, flooded meadow or fen. Finally, you can add a description with extra information. This is handy, because you can always see whether people think the ice is safe enough or not. The IJsmeester app can be downloaded for free in the App Store via the link below.
