The most popular Apple tips
1: iOS 18 drastically changes the Photos app interface, but also adds a lot of new features
Tuesday, September 17 • Wesley Fabry
Since iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, the Photos app for iPhone and iPad looks completely different. Apple has drastically changed the interface of the application. The app now has just one page with your photo library at the top and a good number of featured photos below that.
The simplified view includes the familiar grid, and new collections make it easier to view all photos with a specific theme without having to put them in an album first.
2: Voice isolation, Siri interactions and hearing protection functions for AirPods
Wednesday, September 18 • Richard IJzermans
Together with iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, Apple has added a large number of audio functions to the AirPods. The AirPods Pro 2nd generation in particular benefit from new options such as exclusive hearing functions such as hearing test, hearing protection and using your AirPods as a hearing aid.
In addition, some models also benefit from new Siri interactions, which allow you to respond to Siri hands-free and without words on your AirPods Pro by just nodding yes or shaking your head no. We list all the new audio functions for you.
3: Testing Apple Intelligence on iPhone, iPad and Mac, via a detour also in the EU
Wednesday, September 25 • Wesley Fabry
The possibilities of Apple Intelligence are great, but are actually only available to users in the United States. Apple Intelligence will first be available in English (US), with other languages to be added next year. If desired, you can test Apple Intelligence in English outside the US, but in principle this is not possible in the EU.
Due to Digital Markets Act law, Apple has decided to block Apple Intelligence in the EU. In a roundabout way, it is still possible to test Apple Intelligence on iPhone, iPad and Mac, also in the European Union. You will have to take the necessary actions for this, which will significantly change the way you use your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
4: Customize, personalize control panel and use new interface
Tuesday, September 17 • Wesley Fabry
The design of the control panel has been adjusted since iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. As a user, you have more options to make the control center better suit your way of working. This way you can adjust all the controls and place them in a different location.
The new control panel interface makes it even easier to access the controls you use often. The panel now consists of several pages with a separate place for music, home and network connections. Developers can also add shortcuts to the control center so you can perform even more tasks faster.
5: Apple adds Passwords app to iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia
Friday, September 20 • Richard IJzermans
iOS 18, iPadOS 18, visionOS 2 and macOS Sequoia include a new Passwords app, making password management on Apple devices easier than ever.
In previous versions of iOS and iPadOS, password management was part of the Settings app. On a Mac you could find the login details in system settings, but also hidden in the settings for Safari and the keychain app was also used. All this functionality is now housed in the new Passwords app.
