The most useful unknown keyboard shortcuts (Windows)

Can’t get enough of keyboard shortcuts? There are still countless unknown combination keys, which are useful, for example, when using the internet.


Common keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl+C (copy) and Ctrl+V (paste) are familiar to almost everyone. But there are also useful keyboard shortcuts that many are unfamiliar with. Feel free to try them out. Don’t know how? First read the article ‘Using keyboard shortcuts’.

Examples of useful but often unknown shortcuts on the Internet:

  • Alt+D
    Use this to select the address bar on the Internet. You can then immediately type a web address. This is useful when you want to quickly surf to another website.
  • Alt+Enter
    In the address bar, type a web address and use this keyboard shortcut to open a website in a new tab. You will then keep the page you are currently viewing.
  • Alt+Left Arrow
    Go back to the previously opened web page.
  • Alt+Right Arrow
    Accidentally went to the previous page? Undo that with this keyboard shortcut and you’ll be taken back to the next page.
  • Page Up of PgUP
    Scroll up through the page.
  • Page Down of PgDn
    Scroll down the page.
  • Ctrl+F
    On the Internet, open the search bar and search the page for a particular word.
