The secret button on your iPhone you probably didn’t notice

Although the iPhone 14 is coming soon, there are plenty of people who are still discovering new things on their current iPhone. For example, since 2020 there has been a secret button that not everyone knows yet. OMT editor Mark explains exactly what he is talking about.

If you have an older iPhone model, you will usually not be short of anything. Although you may not have the latest camera system or a smooth display, you often have the most recent software. At the moment that is iOS 15, but people with access to iOS 14 can also use this handy trick.

Apple adds secret button to iPhone

You may not know it, but Apple added a new button to the iPhone two years ago. Not only on the new models from 2020, but also on older devices. I can see those question marks hanging over your head from a mile away, because how exactly did the company manage that?

It’s all about functionality Tap Back. Apple has added this feature to the iPhone for the visually impaired. As a result, certain functionality can be switched on with one, two or three taps on the back. For example, it is possible to activate the flashlight with two taps, where you deactivate it again with three taps. Or you can of course also make sure that the camera app opens or closes.

The great thing about this whole system is that you can add an action yourself. This is possible through the application Assignments from Apple itself. Through this app you can even open your favorite applications with taps on the back.

This is how you set it up

Curious about the functionality and the desire to test Apple’s secret button yourself? Then follow the next steps on your iPhone:

  • Go to Settings
  • Scroll until you Accessibility encounters
  • Go to Touch and then to Tap back
  • Select the action to be performed.

As mentioned, it is also possible to set your own command. You do this as follows:

  • Open Apple’s Shortcuts app
  • Tap the plus sign in the top right corner
  • Press on the button Add task
