Finding inspiration to cook can sometimes be difficult, especially if you live on your own. We’ve rounded up four recipe apps for students (and not students) to find new cooking inspiration and skills.
Better cooking in your dorm with these recipe apps
The end of summer is approaching and that means that many students are switching the hotel called ‘parental home’ for a student room. Sometimes the inspiration to cook yourself does not extend beyond pasta pesto. With these four recipe apps you will cook yourself through the school year.
1. Appie from Albert Heijn
Appie is not only useful if you have an Albert Heijn nearby, because the app has a huge recipe database. Do you have a bit of month left at the end of your money? Then filter on Budget in the search menu. This way you watch your wallet, but you still put tasty meals on the table.
The recipe menu in Appie is divided into different categories. In the search function you can filter on a huge number of recipe types. Indicate that you are looking for something without meat or just want to see recipes for a main course. Or, for example, indicate that you want to wok or fry. So you can find enough inspiration for every day. Found a new favorite dish? Save the recipe to your favorites by pressing the heart.
2. Recipe maker
Do you regularly come across delicious recipes, but do you lose them just as quickly? Then the Recipe Maker app is ideal for you. This app lets you add all the recipes you’ve ever found online so you have one central place for them. Easily import recipes from Safari or add a recipe completely manually, for example from the favorite pasta in your student house.
Every supermarket has its own magazine with all kinds of recipes. Check out these magazines in the app and save all the dishes you like. Do you have to use up leftovers from your fridge? Search for a specific ingredient and get inspiration for recipes that use that product. Set the app to cooking mode to see the recipe in a large screen. Your iPhone will then not go into standby mode.
Do you use the app on multiple devices? Then your ‘recipe book’ is synchronized so that switching is effortless. A nice addition is that you can use your Apple Watch as a kitchen timer via the app. In addition, the app can also be used offline.
3. Photo Cookbook
If baking an egg is higher math for you or if you regularly set off the smoke alarm, the Photo Cookbook app is a solution. Photo Cookbook is an app that feels like a cooking class. Large photos and understandable texts show you step by step which ingredients you need and how to prepare them.
Photo cookbook teaches you recipes from the recipe collection Quick & simple. It contains 60 recipes that can be prepared in 30 minutes or less. The app offers nine other cookbooks with at least 60 recipes each, such as Italian, Asian or Easy & Delicious. These are unfortunately not free, but can be purchased per cookbook in the app.
The photos are of high quality and the ingredients list can be shared with others. This way you can easily send a roommate or study buddy to the supermarket. Ingredients are also provided with photos and additional explanations. You can save your favorite recipes as a favorite and you can also easily add notes to recipes, for example when you have given it your own twist.
4. Tasty
Tasty is very well known on Facebook for the many accelerated cooking videos where the most extravagant or unhealthy dishes are prepared. The cooking channel also has its own app, where you can view all these recipes and read them again.
Tasty has a large amount of simple, quick recipes. But if you want to go all out for a dinner or because your salary has just arrived, look no further. In the search function you can also filter for such moments on occasions such as date night or special occasion.
Every recipe has a step-by-step function. The recipe is then broken down into logical steps with pictures and explanations so you don’t get confused. The ingredients list can be exported and you can always take a look at the ingredients while cooking in the step-by-step mode.
