Apple has officially announced watchOS 11 and we now know which models will support the new software. Unfortunately, quite a few Apple Watch models will be dropped this year. This means that this fall, the new software update can be installed on the Apple Watch Series 6 or later.
In addition, the Apple Watch SE 2nd generation and Apple Watch Ultra from the first and second generation can install the new watchOS update. The other older Apple Watch models will no longer be provided with updates. watchOS 11 is on September 16th around 7:00 PM expected.
watchOS 11 Support
- Apple Watch Ultra 2
- Apple Watch Ultra
- Apple Watch series 10
- Apple Watch series 9
- Apple Watch series 8
- Apple Watch series 7
- Apple Watch series 6
- Apple Watch SE 2nd generation
Unfortunately, the Apple Watch Series 4, Apple Watch Series 5, and the first-generation Apple Watch SE cannot install the new software. Additionally, watchOS 11 requires an iPhone XS, iPhone XR or later with iOS 18. If you have an older iPhone but a newer Apple Watch, you still cannot install watchOS 11.
If you are looking for a new Apple Watch, it is advisable to choose a device that is still updated. Think of a recent model or a model that was introduced about two years ago. The expectation is that series 6 can no longer be updated next year. Please note that some models do not support all new watchOS 11 functions.
