Looking for apps to let your creative egg go? Look no further, we’ve rounded up the best coloring book apps for adults.
The best coloring book apps
Coloring isn’t just for kids. It can also be a lot of fun and relaxing for adults to color something. You may not have a coloring book and markers to hand, but an iPhone or iPad is enough. There are plenty of apps in the App Store to enjoy an evening of coloring and to feel completely zen.
It’s especially nice to use the Apple Pencil for these coloring book apps, but you can also get started without it. We separate the wheat from the chaff and highlight (in no particular order) the best coloring book apps for you.
1. Colorfy
Colorfy makes coloring very easy. You choose a nice picture and then you can get started right away. When you tap a color, you immediately get a whole palette of different shades of the color. By tapping a box in the coloring page, you immediately color it completely. You can also choose a theme with different colors that match a certain theme.
Unfortunately, there are no different brushes or markers in the app that you can use, so your coloring pages will not have depth or structure. In that respect, Colorfy remains fairly simple, but that also makes it a low threshold to get started.
2. Pigment
Pigment is a bit more extensive than Colorfy. If you have chosen a nice plate, choose the colors at the bottom. Instead of tapping an area that is immediately colored, you now have to do the work yourself and get started with different brushes. Nevertheless, the app ensures that you color neatly within the lines.
In the menu on the left you can choose different brushes, sizes, and density of the paint. Fill in complete areas with the paint bucket. No shortage of inspiration: in the gallery you can see the creations of others, and you can also follow various tutorials.
Unfortunately, many functions, coloring pages and brushes are locked up: only when you take out a subscription, you can use all functions. But even with the free version you will be happy for the time being.
3. Recolor
Recolor is a bit simpler in terms of functions, but is therefore calming. When you have chosen a picture you will see some colors at the bottom. By swiping you can choose different color palettes. In the strip above you can see the range of color palettes, with different shades in that color. If you tap an area, it is immediately colored with a nice transition color.
Unfortunately, a lot is also locked here if you do not take out a subscription. If you want to choose an image in the free version, you must first watch a video in order to use the image. Furthermore, you cannot choose different brushes or density. If you have colored the image, you can still add a structure and a filter. You can also lighten the lines or give them a different color.
4. Coloring book for me and Mandala
This adult coloring book aims for the ultimate therapeutic experience: there’s even soothing music to play while you’re coloring. You choose colors from many different palettes and can easily adjust the size and density of your brushes.
What’s special about this app is that you can add your own photo to make your coloring page unique. For example, you can add a landscape to use as a background, or a face to put in the coloring page. You can also choose a texture as the background. Unleash your creativity and see for yourself what kind of artwork comes out!
5. April Coloring
Everyone can create the most beautiful pictures with April Coloring. In the app you color a picture by number. You zoom in, tap a number and immediately see which surfaces have the same number. Then you start coloring right away. At the bottom you see the palette of colors that belong to a specific number.
If you have colored two adjacent boxes, the lines between them will disappear by themselves. Slowly you see a nicely colored picture appear. In the gallery you choose a theme and then the picture you want to color. But you can’t choose everything: the more you color, the more coloring pages you unlock. While coloring you also earn coins, with which you ‘buy’ new pictures.
