Old men, a circus and potatoes in our top five best iOS games of May 2017. And of course a clumsy jumping fish.
Best iOS Games May 2017
We picked two surprisingly emotional games this month. Both Old Man’s Journey and To the Moon revolve around characters who make one of their last journeys, in completely different ways. Fortunately, there is also time for fun with the Dutch Penarium and of course Magikarp Jump. And don’t forget the potatoes from Spaceplan.
1. Old Man’s Journey
Yes, this game is relatively expensive and relatively short. With two hours you are through and you have no reason to play again. Still, Old Man’s Journey tops our list because the game is exceptionally beautiful. In the game you follow the journey of an old man who leaves his safe life behind. The man is too old to climb and clamber extensively, so you have to organize the environment so that he continues. The world is beautiful, so you can keep staring at every screen. The story is also poignant and lingers for a long time after those two hours.

2. Penarium
This silly platformer comes from the Netherlands. In Penarium, main character Willy is thrown into the circus, where he has to avoid all kinds of dangers to entertain the audience. Think of rockets, saws, knives, fire, lasers and other nonsense. To progress, Willy must collect tons. If he has enough barrels, you can proceed to the next level with even more dangers. It is a very fun game that demands a lot from your responsiveness.

3. To the Moon
Speaking of old men and emotional stories, To the Moon is now playable on your iOS device. The game already managed to score high on the PC, but also works great on an iPhone or iPad. Although in this game you only walk and experience the story, To the Moon is incredibly beautiful with good characters and a strong soundtrack. You really must have played this game once.

4. Space plan
Everything in Spaceplan revolves around potatoes. The game is a clicker, which means you click as much as possible to get things done. This time it is about generating as much energy as possible with potatoes. Spaceplan distinguishes itself from other clickers with a story and an ending, making it a lot more manageable than the average game in this genre. The graphic style is also special.

5. Magikarp Jump
The Pokémon Company’s new game stars the craziest Pokémon: Magikarp. This fish cannot do much more than a little jump, but let’s just build competitions around it. As a Magikarp trainer, your goal is to feed, train and compete your fish. This doesn’t require much interaction, but we can’t stop playing anyway. The cheerful style, hilarious puns and random events keep us coming back.
