These iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 features don’t work on all devices

iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15 add many new options and capabilities to the iPhone, iPad and Mac. Unfortunately, some new features may not work on older devices. This means that certain options are no longer available if, for example, you own an older iPhone or Mac.

This has to do with the specifications of the device. Some functions require a more powerful chip or an Apple Silicon processor in the Mac. We list these and more functions that you should do without on some devices below.

Support iOS 18 iPadOS 18 functions

In this article we list all the new features of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, unfortunately not all devices support these new features. In addition, there are also regional restrictions. Below an overview:

iOS 18

  • iPhone 15 Pro (Max): You can use all the new features, including Apple Intelligence
  • iPhone 15 (Plus), iPhone 14 (Pro): You can use all new features except: Apple Intelligence and changing 80% charging limit
  • iPhone 12 (Pro), iPhone 13 (Pro), iPhone SE 3rd generation: You can use all new functions, except the above and: sending messages via Satellite
  • iPhone 11 (Pro): You can use all new features except the above and; Control iPhone with your eyes, haptic feedback in music and convert audio to text
  • iPhone XS (Max), iPhone XR, iPhone SE 2020: You can use all new features except the above and; improve dialogues during calling and unlock smart door lock with ultra wideband

iPadOS 18

  • 13-inch iPad Pro (7th generation M4), 11-inch iPad Pro (5th generation M4), 13-inch iPad Air (6th generation M2), 11-inch iPad Air (6th generation M2)You can use all the new features, including Apple Intelligence
  • 12.9-inch iPad Pro (6th generation and 5th generation), 11-inch iPad Pro (4th generation and 3rd generation), iPad Air (5th generation): You can use all new features and Apple Intelligence, except changing the 80% charging limit
  • iPad (10th generation), iPad Air (3rd generation and 4th generation), iPad mini (6th generation): You can use all new features except the above and; Apple Intelligence
  • 12.9-inch iPad Pro (4th and 3rd generation), 11-inch iPad Pro (2nd and 1st generations), iPad mini (5th generations), iPad (9th, 8th and 7th generations): You can use all new features except the above and; Control iPad with your eyes

Regional restrictions

Some features are not available in Dutch or in the Netherlands and Belgium. Below an overview:

  • Apple Intelligence in English (US) only
  • Automatically categorize incoming email messages (only in English)
  • Topographic maps with detailed hiking networks and walks (USA and Japan)
  • Bring iPhone devices together to pay privately (US only)
  • Support for ‘Rewards’ when paying with Apple Pay (bank must support this)
  • Pay in installments with Apple Pay (bank must support this)
  • Automatically show highlights in Safari (only in English)
  • Table of contents and summary in Safari reader (only in English)
  • Generate live audio transcriptions (only in English)
  • View walking routes and walking guides (US National Parks only)

Support macOS 15 functions

In this article we list all the innovations in macOS 15, unfortunately not all devices support these new options. In addition, there are also regional and processor limitations. Below an overview:

Mac with Apple Silicon

Do you own a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro or 24-inch iMac with an M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra, M2, M2 Pro, M2 Max, M2 Ultra, M3, M3 Pro or M3 Max processor? Then you can use all the new features, including Apple Intelligence.

Do you have a Mac with T2 Security Chip? Then you can use all the new features, except Apple Intelligence.

Mac with Intel processor

If your Mac still has an Intel processor and no T2 chip, you can use all the new functions except: Apple Intelligence and iPhone Mirroring. You also cannot use functions that were added in the previous version and have now been improved under macOS 15. This includes presenter overlay during Mac screen sharing and advanced game mode.

Regional restrictions

Some features are not available in Dutch or in the Netherlands and Belgium. Below an overview:
