Apple has officially announced macOS 15 and now we know which devices will support the new software. Unfortunately, this year also includes a few ‘old’ Macs.
This means that some Mac models, which are currently running macOS Sonoma, cannot be updated to macOS Sequoia. On average, Apple devices are provided with major updates every 5 to 6 years. In recent years, more and more older versions are also provided with security updates.
macOS Sequoia Support
macOS Sequoia you can from September 16th around 7:00 PM install. The following Macs are suitable for installing macOS 15. Do you have an older Mac? Then it is unfortunately no longer possible to update it. Do you not know exactly which Mac you have? Then check this via ▸ About this Mac ▸ More info ▸ Overview.
- MacBook Pro 2018 or later
- MacBook Air 2020 or later
- iMac 2019 or later
- iMac Pro
- Mac Mini 2018 or later
- Mac Pro 2019 or later
- Mac Studio 2022 or later
In practice, this means that you cannot install macOS 15 on the MacBook Air from 2018 and 2019.
If you are looking for a new Mac, it is advisable to choose a device that is still updated. Think of a recent model or a model that was introduced about two years ago. Please note that some models do not support all new functions.
