The updates iOS 16.4, iPadOS 16.4 and macOS 13.3 are available, and include a number of new features for the Apple Podcasts app on iPhone, iPad, Mac and CarPlay.
New Podcasts features
Since last night you can download and install iOS 16.4, iPadOS 16.4 and macOS 13.3. The new updates bring new emojis, improvements and security updates, but also new features for the Podcasts app. We list the most important innovations for you.
Up Next improvements
Up Next (on the Listen Now tab) now includes episodes you’ve saved and episodes of shows you’re playing but not following. If you want to skip episodes, you can now do so very easily by long-pressing them and then choosing ‘Delete’.
All podcast channels in one place
For starters, there’s a new menu in the app’s library, which brings together all the podcast channels in one place on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. With such a channel, a podcast provider can put all his or her episodes in one place. This makes it much easier for listeners to discover all episodes from a provider.
New podcast episodes
After updating to iOS 16.4, you’ll see how many episodes you haven’t listened to at the top of each show’s page. You’ll also find early access episodes where available, which are part of Apple Podcasts subscriptions.
Improvements for CarPlay
iOS 16.4 also includes improvements to CarPlay, including accessing Up Next and Recently Played from Listen Now. You’ll now also find improved podcast recommendations in the browser.
Use new Podcasts features
If you want to use the new features, you will first have to install iOS 16.4. If you haven’t already done so, go to the Settings app, tap “General,” then “Software Update.” If you have enabled the ‘Automatic updates’ option, the update will be installed automatically in a while.
