This is how the magnifying glass feature of iOS 10 works

iOS 10 adds a useful feature for the visually impaired. With the iOS 10 magnifying glass you always have a handy tool with your iPhone in your pocket, which you can adjust to your own taste.

Enable iOS 10 Magnifier on your iPhone

The iOS 10 Magnifier is a godsend for people who have trouble reading smaller letters. As the name suggests, the iPhone’s camera is used as a magnifying glass by auto-zooming. You can then zoom in even further with a slider at the bottom of the image.

The iOS 10 Magnifier is hidden in the Accessibility settings. If you activate it once, you can also link it directly to your home button. If you then press the home button three times in quick succession, the Magnifier will start automatically. This is how you set this up:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone
  2. Go to General
  3. Tap Accessibility
  4. Choose Magnifier and set the two switches to green

Once you’ve opened the magnifying glass, there are a few more options. For example, you can zoom in further with a bar, lock the screen and switch the flash on and off. By tapping the right button (with three small circles in it) you open a new menu. This allows you to easily adjust the color balance of the photo. For example, turn on a White / blue filter, choose shades of gray or yellow / blue and more.

The iOS 10 Magnifier is a useful tool for visually impaired people, whether they have trouble reading small letters or are color blind. Especially since you can link the option directly to the home button as described above, it is a great way for Apple to further improve the accessibility of the iPhone.
