Rather than using the default documents icons, Windows 10 creates very small renderings of images or document content. Unfortunately, these thumbnails get corrupted from time to time and sometimes make your computer slow to show the contents of certain folders. You can do this about it.
Damaged thumbnail cache
To prevent the system from re-creating the thumbnails over and over again, Windows stores those images in a special database file called the thumbnail cache. Unfortunately, you sometimes see wrong or even distorted thumbnails. That means that due to a bug or a hardware problem, the thumbnails in the cache are corrupted. The best thing to do then is to delete the entire thumbnail cache and allow Windows to recreate the faulty thumbnails the next time you start the computer.
Disk Cleanup
To clear thumbnail cache in Windows 10, you need Disk Cleanup program. Open the menu Start and type “Disk Cleanup”. In the Disk Cleanup list, you will see various data that Windows has stored that you can safely delete.
If you just want to clear the thumbnail cache files, make sure to only clear the box next to Thumbnails is checked. click on OK. A pop-up will ask if you are sure you want to delete these files. Confirm your choice. A moment later you will see the progress of the removal. Restart your computer and you will find that the correct thumbnails will reappear.

Speed gain through pictograms
If you notice that the Windows 10thumbnails often don’t work properly, you can turn them off. Especially with slower computers or with network drives that contain a lot of photos or videos, navigation can be annoyingly slow because Windows has to build thumbnails of these files. Here you can gain speed by deactivating the thumbnails so that you only see icons.
To function Thumbnails To turn it off, go to Windows Explorer. In the tab Statue click on the right Options. In the dialog that follows, select the tab Display. And then you place a check mark Always show icons, never thumbnails. Confirm your choice with OK. Open a folder to test the setting. You should now only see the default icons. If you change your mind, turn this option off.
