Are you curious whether your current computer, probably with Windows 10, is suitable for Windows 11? Then we have good news, since you can check that with a simple program. In this article we explain what you need to know about this.
Windows 11 is coming. That means we can prepare our computers running Windows 10 for the next version of the operating system (or start looking for a replacement for those computers in the meantime). Whatever the case, it is good that you know what system requirements there are, so that you can prepare well. You can find those requirements on the Microsoft website. If you want to read more about Windows 11, we also have a previously published article for you.
Is your PC suitable for Windows 11?
Microsoft has released a tool with which you can check for yourself whether your current PC is suitable for Windows 11. The tool was already online, but has been taken offline because it was far too strict and in many cases showed that users’ PCs were unsuitable. . Before we go into that a little further: how does the app work and what exactly do you have to do?
As soon as you get the downloaded the app (if it is available, so keep an eye on the site), you can install it. Indicate that you accept the terms and conditions and press the install button. Now tick that you want to open the app and complete the installation. Information about your PC will now appear on the screen, with a large, blue button with which you can check whether your device is suitable for Windows 11. You will then see one of two messages: your device is suitable or your device is unsuitable.
In both cases you will find a button at the bottom where you can learn more about the upgrade. This will take you to a page where you can read more about the system requirements.
What if your PC is not suitable?
It is possible that your current PC is not suitable for Windows 11. There can be several reasons. The most obvious reason is that your hardware is not up to date. Perhaps your processor is not fast enough, that is the greatest chance. You need at least an eighth generation Intel processor, for example. Here you will find a complete list with supported processors. In addition, your computer may not have the so-called TPM 2.0 chip. That abbreviation stands for Trusted Platform Module.
The TMP chip provides security at the hardware level, not at the software level. Your disks are provided with encryption, so that certain attacks can no longer be performed. Many consumer computers do not have such chips on board (nor do the most custom build PCs, you have to purchase them separately), so that many computers lose weight in advance. That is also the reason that many people see that their PC is not suitable for Windows 11. In addition, you must have Secure Boot activated on your system, not everyone has that either.
Some things may change between now and the release, but Microsoft seems to be keen that at least the TPM 2.0 chip is mandatory. You may still be able to install the upgrade on a computer with a less powerful processor, but time will tell. Microsoft has announced that Windows 11 will be available before the end of the year. The rumors point to a possible release date of October 20. If that is the case, the company still has some order to create in the chaos that has now arisen. Let’s hope it works out in the end.
