Live Photos on Facebook

Since the launch of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6S Plus, it is possible to take Live Photos. These photos can move, because your iPhone immediately grabs a piece of image before and after the photo. A nice, unique feature of the latest generation of smartphones from Apple, but then sharing these animations with others is difficult. That is about to change, because now you can just put the photos on Facebook.

This is how you share Live Photos on Facebook

You can share Live Photos with the latest version of the Facebook app that is now being rolled out. You share Live Photos just like other images from your iPhone via the camera roll. If you choose a Live Photo, you can use the bullseye icon to choose whether to post a still image or the moving Live Photo to Facebook.

However, there is a major drawback to this sharing, because only a limited number of people can actually see the Live Photo in motion. With an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6S, you can view the animation by using 3D Touch, or with a longer press on an older iPhone or iPad with iOS 9.

The animations can also be seen with an Apple Watch and a Mac with El Capitan can show the animation by importing the image into the Photos app. If you have an older version of iOS, OS X, an Android device, a Windows PC, or any other means of accessing Facebook, you’re out of luck.
