This is how you share your arrival time in iOS 13 from Maps and CarPlay

It becomes easier to share with others when you arrive on location. In iOS 13, you can easily share your arrival time with contacts from Maps or Apple CarPlay. That is how it works.

Share your arrival time with others

Whether you are on the way to a dinner with friends or in a traffic jam towards a business appointment. Starting with iOS 13, you no longer have to send others a message at what time you will arrive. You just as easily automatically share your arrival time with them.

If you share your route with someone, they will automatically receive a message stating the estimated arrival time. Moreover, you don’t have to worry about delays. If you are a little later, your iPhone will automatically send a message with the new time of arrival.

Your arrival time can be shared with several people at the same time. Pay attention to who you select. Once sent, the message cannot be deleted. However, you can stop sharing, so that people no longer receive updates about the time. You do this by tapping a contact’s photo. Go through the following steps to activate it correctly. Of course you need an iPhone that runs on iOS 13 or newer for this.

  1. Open the Maps app;
  2. Set a destination and start navigation for the car;
  3. A ‘Share arrival’ button will appear at the bottom or swipe the bottom bar of the navigation up to reveal the option. Tap this;
  4. Then tap on ‘Contacts’ and choose someone you want to share your arrival time with.

Are you in the car and does it support Apple CarPlay? From iOS 13 it is also possible to indicate the time of arrival from the dashboard of your car. You do this as follows.

Share your arrival time in Apple CarPlay

  1. Start navigation to your final destination from Maps;
  2. Tap the arrow next to the arrival time at the bottom left;
  3. Then press ‘Share arrival’;
  4. Tap one of your contacts to share.

Where you can choose from your entire friends list on your iPhone, you can only select the most recent contacts in CarPlay. Is the person you want to keep informed not listed? Then your iPhone is still needed. Sharing your arrival time automatically stops when you reach the destination.

Not flawless yet

For the time being, there are still a number of things to take into account for this position. For example, it can only be activated if the navigation is intended for the car. It is therefore not yet possible to share routes by public transport or on foot. The message is also only sent by text message or iMessage. Sharing via WhatsApp, Telegram or another messaging service is not yet possible.

Apple may be expanding the feature, possibly even before the final release of iOS 13. The update for your iPhone and iPad will be available in September. Then Apple will also release updates such as macOS Catalina for the Mac and watchOS 6 for the Apple Watch. For an extensive first impression, check the iOS 13 preview or watch the video below.
