Starting with iOS 14.2, you can add Shazam to the Control Center. We show you how to use the music recognition service to find out the name of that one song.
Here’s how to use Shazam from the Control Panel
Apple acquired Shazam three years ago and has now integrated the music recognition service into iOS. You no longer have to download the app to find out the title of that nice song in the pub. You do need to add Shazam to the Control Panel first. You do that like this:
- Go to settings and open the Control Panel;
- Scroll to ‘Music Recognition’ and click on the plus sign;
- If you now swipe up on the home screen of your iPhone, you will see the Shazam symbol in your control panel.
Shazam does not listen in by default. That could be a privacy issue and drains your battery unnecessarily. To find out what music you’re listening to, click the Shazam logo in the Control Panel. Typically, title and artist appear at the top of the screen within seconds. If you swipe down, you will see the album cover. You can listen to the song directly with Apple Music.
You can also still ask Siri to identify a song. You just have to say “Hey Siri, Shazam”. However, if you’re not a fan of Apple’s voice assistant, this is a great alternative.
Other innovations in iOS 14.2
Shazam’s integration into Control Center is just one of many innovations in iOS 14.2. For example, you can now also use your HomePod or HomePod mini as an intercom.
