This is new in the April update of Windows 10

Windows 10

Microsoft will release the first major update for Windows 10 this year in April, version 2004, and we can expect several improvements. It must be said, however, that Microsoft will probably focus on developing Windows 10X, the operating system for foldable devices. So, the April update may not fix all issues from Windows 10.

The April update is the successor to a somewhat smaller update that appeared in November last year.

Recover from the cloud

One of the most interesting new features in the April update is believed to be the ability to restore Windows from the cloud, an option Mac users have known for years. Ideal, because now you do not need an external hard drive to make a backup. This is a welcome feature, especially if you enjoy a fast and stable internet connection.

Incidentally, the cloud recovery option will not restore your PC to factory settings, but will only restore the most recent version of Windows 10.

We have created a wonderful online course for Windows 10. Together with a 180 page book, you will learn everything about this operating system. With additional practice questions to test your knowledge and clear video tutorials where the advanced parts of Windows 10 are explained extra for you.

Windows Hello PIN

The April update will also allow you to login faster using Windows Hello PIN, especially if you’re in safe mode. This saves time if something is wrong with your computer and you often have to log in and out.

For developers, a few improvements have also been made, including in terms of memory consumption and support for ARM64. In addition, connectivity with Linux network applications will improve.

Windows Sandbox

Since the spring 2019 update, you can use Windows Sandbox in Windows 10, which you can use to virtualize. With a virtual operating system you can work in an environment that is shielded from the ordinary environment. In this article we explain how that works.

The virtualization option was previously a bit limited, but that changes in the new Windows 10 update with support for your microphone and the ability to configure various aspects of the sandbox, such as networks and shared folders.

Virtualize
Virtualization just got easier with Windows Sandbox.

There will also be some new key combinations and you can give your own name to your Virtual Desktop. Previously, these were always standard names such as Desktop 1 or Desktop 2, etc. Now you can change that yourself.

Notifications

For many Windows 10 users, notification settings turned out to be unclear and difficult to find. Microsoft will also change that in April. If a notification appears on your screen, you will immediately receive options to disable it for a specific app or website. You will also find your way directly to the notification settings within the notifications. Very easy!

Many other changes Microsoft will make next month are very technical in nature and the question is whether you will notice this. Are you curious about all the details? Here you can read more about that.
