This is what we can expect from the new MacBook Pro (2022)

Apple will host another event on March 8, in which new products are usually announced. There is a lot of speculation that Apple wants to unveil some interesting products, including a new MacBook Pro with M2 chip. What can we expect from that?

According to the generally well-established DigiTimes the new MacBook Pro will be the successor to the current 13-inch model with the M1 chip from Apple. The current model still has a Touch Bar, which many users are not exactly enthusiastic about, and also has relatively few ports compared to the newer 14-inch and 16-inch models, which appeared in October 2021. From M1 to M2

Journalist Mark Gurman of Bloomberg news agency expects that the new 13-inch model will not be equipped with a mini-LED and a ProMotion screen, unlike the larger MacBooks. DigiTimes, relying on supply chain sources, appears to confirm these suspicions. “Aside from the processor, most components in the new MacBook Pro will match those in current models with M1 chips,” it reads.

It is expected that the new Pro will run on the as yet unannounced M2 chip. This chip should be faster and more energy efficient than the current M1 chip, but nevertheless would not come close to the M1 Pro or Max, which we find in the latest MacBook.

No big surprises

This also seems to suggest that we shouldn’t expect any big surprises in the design and specifications either. Gurman predicts that the Touch Bar will no longer be present on the MacBook Pro. Many software developers didn’t do much with the function keys, so the Touch Bar added little to the laptop.

Apple would also lower the storage and computing power in the laptop a bit compared to the current Pro models, which suggests that the new MacBook Pro will have a relatively low price tag. The laptop will probably also be in stores fairly soon after its announcement on March 8.

The MacBook Pro won’t be the only laptop to get an update. Apple is said to be working on a new MacBook Air, iMac and Mac Mini, all of which will run on Silicon, or Apple’s own processors. A cheaper iPhone and iPad with 5G may also be announced.
