It’s crazy, but the woman in the photo above had her name changed due to an issue with iOS 17. Here’s why.
Woman changes name due to problem in iOS 17
Imagine, Apple releases the iOS 17 update, and a new feature makes you feel compelled to change your name. That’s the story of Ms Price, a young personal trainer from Scotland. It’s probably a funny story to most people, but certainly not to her.
As you may know, iOS 17 introduced the ability to summon Apple’s voice assistant just by saying the word “Siri.” Previously, this always had to be preceded by a ‘Hey’. And that is the cause of the whole problem.

Siri Price has an iOS 17 problem
Because Price’s first name is of course ‘Siri’. She works in a gym and that has caused minor problems in the past in combination with Apple’s voice assistant. She started greeting all her friends, customers and colleagues by simply saying ‘Siri’, without a ‘Hey’. According to her, that was annoying, but still doable.
However, iOS 17 changed everything. As soon as someone says her name, iPhone screens everywhere light up. She is quite angry about it:
I’m absolutely furious. My friend installed the new update and noticed that his phone wakes up every time he calls me by my name. It also happens at the gym: when clients greet me, their iPhones activate and they do it repeatedly.

So Siri Price decided to change her name to Siz. Bee iPhoned we hope that this will now solve her problems, because we experience unintentional Siri activations with many words with an ‘s’ or ‘z’ sound
Where does the name Siri come from?
Siri celebrated its introduction in 2011, along with the iPhone 4S. By the way, the name really comes from an existing person. This was confirmed by Dag Kittlaus, one of the co-founders of the original company that developed Siri, in 2012.
I was working with a lady named Siri in Norway and wanted to name my daughter Siri and the domain was available. And consumer companies should also focus on the fact that the name is easy to spell, easy to pronounce.”
Hello Kittlaus, co-founder of Siri
Siri Price may find the name too easy to pronounce, but she’s not the only one who wishes Siri had a different name. According to Kittlaus, Steve Jobs simply hated the name – but couldn’t think of a better one.
