You can make incoming calls, notifications, or messages more visible with a handy accessibility setting. In addition to the usual vibrations, sounds and lighting up your screen, you also have the option to flash the LED flash when you receive a notification.
This provides a clearer signal, so you are less likely to miss a notification or phone call. This feature can be found under the accessibility options and was originally intended for people with hearing problems.
Blink at notifications
The function of the iPhone LED flash on notifications is to provide a visual cue by flashing the LED light next to the camera when a notification, call, or message arrives. This is mainly intended for people with a hearing impairment, so that they can notice messages better; it can also be useful in noisy environments or when the iPhone’s sound is turned off.

By default, the flash only works when the iPhone screen is in standby mode, but you can also choose to always see an LED flash. Then the flash flashes a few times to alert the user without making any sound, making it an additional notification method.
Activate iPhone LED flash on notifications
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Tap on ‘Accessibility’ option
- Navigate to ‘Audio and visual’
- Select ‘Blink on Notifications’ (LED flash upon notification)

Enable the ‘Flash on notifications’ option (LED flash on notification). You can then indicate whether the flash should also be visible when the device is unlocked and in silent mode. This way you always stay informed, regardless of the situation.
LED flash when notified
Starting with iOS 26.2, Apple changed the flash settings. You now have the option to use just the flash, just the screen, or both, giving you control over how strong the effect is when receiving notifications.
