Threads is now available in the Netherlands (forget Twitter)

Threads is now finally available in the Netherlands, which is seen as the alternative to Twitter. You can do this with the new app!

Threads now available in the Netherlands

Are you still looking for an alternative to Twitter? Then we have good news, because Threads is now available in the Netherlands. This is Meta’s counterpart to Twitter (or X), where you can post short messages. Threads is connected to Instagram, so you can immediately see posts you like. Also useful: you can see which of your followers has already created an account on Threads.

This way you don’t have to search for your friends in Threads, but you can quickly add everyone. As soon as one of your Instagram followers creates an account on Threads, you will also receive a notification. Creating an account on Threads is easy, especially if you already have an Instagram account. Threads can be downloaded for free from the App Store and can be used free of charge in the Netherlands.

This is how Threads works

Threads basically works the same as Twitter. The app is intended for posting short text messages, containing a maximum of 500 characters. You can also share photos, videos and polls on the platform. That’s not all, because it is even possible to post voice messages. These messages then appear in ‘Threads’ below each other on the timeline of your followers.

It’s not entirely clear how your timeline is determined in Threads. The order of the posts is shown randomly, but you also have the option to pay for Meta Verified on Threads. With this paid subscription, your posts will appear higher on someone’s timeline and you will see fewer ads. This subscription was already available on Facebook and Instagram, you pay no less than 16.99 euros.

Alternative to Twitter

With the launch of Threads in the Netherlands, there is finally a suitable alternative to Twitter. The demand for such an alternative was increasing, especially due to all the chaos on Twitter in recent months. Since the takeover by Elon Musk, quite a bit has changed on the platform, including the name change to X and the option to purchase a blue check mark behind your username.

Unfortunately, with Threads in the Netherlands, Meta has the opportunity to collect even more data from you. The new app lets Meta learn even more about you, in addition to the data already collected via WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook. It was previously clear that Threads collects all your data, so keep that in mind when downloading the app.
