Since macOS High Sierra and iOS 11, you can also use Siri without needing your voice. In this tip, we’ll show you how to activate and use this feature.
This way you use Siri without a voice
Siri is a smart assistant with its own personality, with whom you can simply have a conversation. But sometimes it’s not convenient (or possible) to talk to your iPhone or Mac to give Siri commands. Fortunately, since macOS High Sierra and iOS 11, you can also use your keyboard to ask questions to the voice assistant. And this of course also works in the newer iOS 12 and macOS Mojave.
Before you can use Siri typing, you need to turn it on. Please note: to then speak to Siri again, you must turn this option off again. Follow the step-by-step plan below.
- Go to ‘Settings’ on iOS or ‘System Preferences’ on your Mac;
- Open ‘General> Accessibility’ and then go to ‘Siri’;
- Turn on the option ‘Type questions to Siri’.
Now if you hold down the home or power button on your iPhone, or press and hold Command + Space on your Mac, a text box for Siri will appear. Here you can type in anything you would normally say out loud. By enabling typing, you also lose the ability to say “Hey Siri” to activate the assistant.
