Tip: Cleaning the Apple Watch in 4 steps

You sit on your Apple Watch all day long. It is therefore only logical that the watch will become dirty over time. In this article, we’ll show you how to clean an Apple Watch.

Cleaning the Apple Watch in 4 steps

The average Apple Watch is particularly filthy. It is sometimes said that a watch contains more bacteria than a toilet seat. This statement is a bit misleading, because the smallest room is generally pretty clean, but you can’t ignore the fact that your Apple Watch is full of bacteria.

It therefore doesn’t hurt to clean your Apple watch every now and then. In this manual we will show you step-by-step how to do this, and what you should take into account. The following supplies come in handy:

  • Two microfiber cloths
  • A little water
  • Soft brush

You use the first cloth to clean the dirty surface, with the second you wipe the watch. You can also use disinfecting cleaning wipes. Please note that these contain a maximum of 70 percent isopryl alcohol, a disinfectant. Never use this agent on fabric or leather wristbands.

1. Stake out and remove dust

First, make sure the Apple Watch is turned off. Also remove the watch from the charger if necessary. In addition, disconnect the wristband before you start cleaning; this works better and comes in handy in step 4.

Cleaning an Apple Watch starts with removing dust. However, dust can contain sand particles, so don’t just start sweeping across the screen. Use a soft brush to prevent scratches and wipe the entire watch with it.

2. Clean the screen

Now it is time to actually clean the screen. To do this, use the first microfiber cloth or a disinfecting cloth. If necessary, you can moisten it, or hold the Apple Watch under a thin stream of warm, clean water for a while. Never use soap or other cleaning products.

Clean the display by making circular movements with your wrist. Once you’ve removed all the grime, it’s time to wipe the screen with the second, clean microfiber cloth. You repeat the above steps for the back of the Apple Watch, the part that has contact with your wrist.

3. Clean the digital crown

The Digital Crown is a magnet for germs, because without realizing it, you spend all day fiddling with it. It can also contain dirt, making the Crown stiff or sticky to the touch.

In that case, try to hold the Digital Crown under a tap with a small jet of warm water for about ten to fifteen seconds. Keep pushing and turning as the water flows over the small opening between the Crown and the housing. Afterwards, use the second, dry microfiber cloth to wipe the protrusion.

4. Clean wristband

Finally, it is important to refresh the wristband. After all, it is in contact with your wrist all day long. Use the brush to again use any dust residues and sand parts.

Then grab the first microfiber cloth to wipe the band. If necessary, you can moisten it slightly, but watch out for leather wristbands. These are very sensitive to water and easily damaged. Let the band dry for a while afterwards. After this you can reassemble the Apple Watch and it is ready for use.
