A white HomePod looks nice, but it also gets dirty quickly. And what do you do with circles left by the speaker on your wooden floor? This is everything you need to know about cleaning a HomePod.
How to clean HomePod
There is absolutely no harm in cleaning your iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch regularly. These devices come into contact with your hands several times a day. You grab a HomePod a lot less often, and it has a permanent place in your house. This means you don’t have to clean the speaker as often, but a good cleaning from time to time certainly won’t hurt. The supplies below come in handy.
- Microfiber cloth
- A little water
- Clothes brush
You use the clothing brush to remove dust and (animal) hair, while you use the microfiber cloth to wipe the surface. Watch out with water and wring the cloth well before you start working on it. You can also use cleaning cloths if necessary. Please note that these contain a maximum of 70 percent isopryl alcohol, a disinfectant.
Cleaning a HomePod in 3 steps:
- Remove the plug so that the HomePod is not active while cleaning;
- Move the clothes roller around the mesh of the HomePod. This removes hair and large dust flaps from the speaker;
- Slightly dampen the microfiber cloth, then squeeze it, and move the cloth around the HomePod’s fabric.

What do I do with circles?
Does the speaker leave rings on your wooden floor? Then follow the manufacturer’s directions to clean it. In the future, it is wiser not to place your HomePod directly on the wooden floor, but to use a book or coaster, for example.
Apple admits that the speaker can leave circles on wooden surfaces. This has to do with oil vapors that form between the silicone and wooden surface. Moreover, you can not hold Apple to account, because it even warns about it on its own website and has thus covered itself.
Is there a stain on your HomePod, for example because someone dropped a glass of wine over it? Unfortunately, there is no way to thoroughly clean such stains. It is better not to use aggressive cleaning agents as the HomePod’s lining is fragile. It is therefore better to ask Apple’s customer service for help.
