You don’t need an extensive photo editing program to crop images on the Mac. With Preview you can easily edit your photos. iPhoned explains how it works.
Crop images with Preview
There are several programs with which you can crop and edit images relatively easily. Photoshop is a good example of this, but not everyone is waiting for the options that this program offers. What you may not know is that every Mac (Book) has a program that allows you to crop images. This is Preview, which is also used to open images and PDF files. You can recognize the application by its simple appearance, minimal options and the blue app icon.
Cropping an image with Preview is very easy. We explain it in the steps below.
- Open an image on your Mac with the Preview app;
- Use your mouse or the trackpad to select a part of the image. You do this by holding down and selecting a plane;
- Then release and use the key combination CMD (⌘) + K to complete the process.
When you have completed the steps, changes will be saved automatically and the image will have the format you have chosen. No new file is created; the original image is only adjusted. So keep this in mind before you start editing. In some cases it is more convenient to make a copy beforehand.
When cropping, Preview also shows what resolution the image is. You can see this at the bottom of the screen, next to the mouse pointer. With this you can see at a glance whether the image has the correct format and remains sharp enough. In addition, it is possible to share the image with others using the share button in the menu bar (square with the arrow pointing up). You can choose to share via the Mail app, AirDrop, Twitter, Facebook and more.
