Like Snapchat, Instagram now also uses fleeting ‘stories’ made up of photos and videos. In this article, we explain how sharing snaps on Instagram works.
Share snaps on Instagram
For those who use both Instagram and Snapchat, figuring out what moment to record on which app can be tricky. The stories on both platforms are meant as short snapshots, not as something you can watch in a week. You have 24 hours, then it’s gone.
The differences are now clear and Snapchat can even learn quite a bit from Instagram Stories. However, this is also the case the other way around. Instagram Stories offers a lot less functions than Snapchat, such as selfie masks, geofilters and stickers. If you choose Snapchat and you also want to share creations on Instagram, you can read how to do that in this article.
That is how it works
Reusing Snapchat photos or videos on Instagram is a bit easier than the other way around. In addition, Snapchat shows a thick border around photos that you load from the gallery, which not everyone will like. Follow the steps below to include your Snapchat in Instagram Stories.
- Open Snapchat and take a snap;
- Tap the save button at the bottom left of the screen (faster: press and hold the button to save directly to your Photos app – skip to step 8);
- Get out of the snap by tapping the cross in the top left;
- Tap the icon below the record button to go to ‘Reminders’;
- Choose your saved snap in the ‘Snaps’ window;
- Swipe up to enter editing interface;
- Tap the top bar that says ‘My Snap’, choose ‘Export Snap’ and then ‘Save Image / Video’;
- Open Instagram;
- Tap the plus icon in the top left or swipe right to enter the Stories interface;
- Swipe down to access your saved photos from the last 24 hours;
- Choose your snap and add text or scribbles if you want;
- Add the image to your Instagram Story.
It’s a bit more work if you don’t skip steps three to seven, but basically you’ll have a snap on Instagram pretty quickly too. This way it is easy to share content and to introduce Instagram followers to Snapchat and indicate that you can be found there too.
