This is how you export a WhatsApp conversation

WhatsApp conversations secretly take up a lot of space on your iPhone. But you don’t always want to delete conversations. Maybe it contains important information or it was a special conversation that you would like to keep. Then you have the option to export your WhatsApp conversations to your email. You can keep it, but it no longer needs to take up space in your iPhone storage. This is how you do it:

Tip: This is how you export WhatsApp conversations to your email
  1. Open WhatsApp on your iPhone and go to the ‘Chats’ tab;
  2. Swipe left on the conversation you want to export;
  3. Choose ‘More’ and then ‘Export Chat’;
  4. If you also want to export the photos shared in the conversation, choose ‘Attach media’. If you don’t want that, tap ‘Without media’;
  5. Then tap on ‘Email’ or another mail app;
  6. The conversation becomes a .txt zip file and is automatically added as an attachment to your email;
  7. At ‘To’, enter the email address you want the conversation to go to, as you would with any other email, and tap ‘Send’.

The zip file has now been sent to your email. If you then want to open the file on your laptop, for example, you must first extract the zip file. You can then read back the conversation. In the above steps, it does not matter to which app you send the exported chat. This way you can choose any mail app or another chat app with which you share the conversation with someone else.
