Recently, Instagram shows when you and your friends are online. Very handy, but sometimes also annoying. In this tip, we’ll show you how to hide your online status on Instagram.
How to hide Instagram online status
Recently you can see in Instagram which of your friends are online at that moment in the app. Handy if you want to start a conversation with someone that you know will quickly return a response. The online status can only be seen of people you follow and who follow you back, and of friends with whom you have a conversation in Instagram Direct. In the settings you can choose to show your online status on your profile to everyone, or only to people in Direct Messages.
- Open the Instagram app on your iPhone;
- Tap your profile picture in the bottom right corner of the screen;
- Select the gear to open the settings;
- Scroll down and choose ‘Activity status’;
- The switches behind ‘Show activity status and Show activity in chat off.
If both options are off, no one will see when you are online or not in Instagram. To turn this back on, go through the same steps but turn the switches back on. Disabling your online status in Instagram does have a small drawback: if you turn off the function, you can no longer see other people when they are online in the app. Fair enough, right?
