Tip: This is how you install the public beta of iOS 11

The official version of iOS 11 won’t be released until the fall, but you can already install the operating system’s first public beta now. In this article we explain how and what to pay attention to.

iOS 11: New features for Siri, App Store and iPad

iOS 11 is the latest operating system for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and will be released in Fall 2017. Among other things, the Control Panel will be given a makeover in the system. In addition, Siri will sound different and the App Store has a completely new design for the first time since its introduction in 2008.

IOS 11 is also an exciting update for the iPad, because the tablet gets a Mac-like dock to use apps. This improves working and fast switching between applications. There is also support for ‘Drag & Drop’, with which you simply drag files from one app to another.

Make a backup

Before you start installing iOS 11, it is recommended that you make a backup. It is simply a beta version. This means that the operating system can sometimes suffer from errors, hiccups and crashes. This way, the battery can drain faster and you shouldn’t be alarmed if the iPhone or iPad suddenly reboots itself. If something really goes wrong, you won’t lose any files thanks to a backup and you can go back to the latest stable version of iOS 10.

Back to iOS 10

If you notice that the iOS 11 beta is still too unstable for your wishes and you want to go back to iOS 10, you can. There is no very simple solution for this. It is most convenient to click on the computer and this website download the latest version of iOS 10. Then connect the iOS device, open iTunes, hold down the Alt button and click Check for Update. You can then select the downloaded iOS 10 file and downgrade your device to the stable version of the operating system.
