WhatsApp has updated its app, finally making it possible to tag targeted people in group conversations.
WhatsApp mentions in group conversations
The WhatsApp app has been quietly updated, so you don’t have to download it. Not much has changed, but a trick has been added to get people’s attention in group conversations. Now you can tag people (as was previously possible in Twitter, Facebook, Telegram and Slack, among others), after which their name changes into a link. If you tap it, more information about the person in question will appear.
That is how it works
Sending a mention in WhatsApp is very easy, you don’t have to create a username. It only works within group conversations, read how below.
- Open WhatsApp;
- Go to a group conversation;
- Tap the @ button and a list of names in the group will appear;
- Scroll to the person or type the first letter (s) of the name and tap on it;
- Complete your message and choose ‘Send’.
Judging from the most recent posts, it shouldn’t be long before WhatsApp gets GIF support. The moving images would already be available in the app, but they just need to be enabled by WhatsApp. Rumors about the addition of GIFs have been going on for a while.
Scheduled WhatsApp updates
WhatsApp was recently updated for iOS. The biggest innovation was the support for Siri, so that you can send messages with a voice command. From now on, your screen will also be taken over when you receive a call via WhatsApp, just like with a regular phone call. In addition, a widget is available for iOS 10, on which you can see the most recent conversations.
Now it’s also easy to switch between the FaceTime camera and the rear camera by double-tapping the screen. Incidentally, there is still no support for video calling.
