Tip: this is how you take a picture of your iPhone or iPad screen

Since iOS 11, it has become a lot easier to take a picture of your screen. This way you can record the screen immediately and share the video with whomever you want. iPhone explains how it works in this tip.

This is how you take an iPhone screen recording

Taking a picture of your screen can be useful at different times. For example, you can use the function to capture a cool ARKit app, share an impressive game performance or show a problem with your iPhone. In previous iOS versions you were dependent on taking screenshots, but a video is a lot more practical in some cases.

That’s why you can add a button to the Control Center to take an iPad or iPhone screen recording. If you press it, your screen will be recorded immediately until you tap the button again or press the red bar at the top. You activate the function as follows.

  1. Open Settings and go to ‘Control panel’;
  2. Tap ‘Adjust Controls’;
  3. Find ‘Screen Recording’ and press the green plus sign;
  4. Use the three stripes on the right to arrange the record button on your Control Center.

Once you have completed the steps above, you will find the screen recording button in the Control Panel. Then it is a matter of pressing the button to immediately start recording. A red bar at the top of the screen shows that you are recording and how long your video will last. Press this or the button again to stop.

With or without microphone sound

The recording is then automatically saved in the Photos app. We recommend that you edit the movie a little longer, so that you can cut the beginning and end off. This always consists of the Control Panel that appears on the screen.

By firmly pressing the record button with 3D Touch, you can turn the sound of your microphone on or off. Handy if, for example, you want to tell what is happening on the screen while making the video.
