Do you not have a lot of mobile data and do you store photos in iCloud? Then it is wise to switch uploading with mobile data. In this article you can read how.
Turn off mobile data for iCloud photos
The iCloud library is very useful. With iCloud you can access your photos on any Apple device. When you have lost your device, or it no longer works, you will never lose your photos. Photos in your iCloud also take up less space on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
You need an internet connection to upload the photos to the digital cloud. If you automatically upload photos to iCloud, this will happen for some photos even when you only have mobile data on. But if you don’t have a lot of data in your monthly bundle, you can quickly chase it through with this feature.
Fortunately, it is possible to disable this. That works very easily. To do this, follow the next steps.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone;
- Scroll down and tap Photos;
- Scroll down again and tap on ‘Mobile data’;
- Turn off the switch behind ‘Mobile data’.

By default, iOS ensures that larger files and videos are only uploaded if you have a WiFi connection. So you can never suddenly lose a lot of data. Still, you can save even more data this way.
Enable unlimited updates
Do you have a large bundle and do you not care if iCloud uses your mobile data bundle to upload photos? Then you can enable ‘Unlimited updates’. To do this, follow the steps above and, in addition to the switch behind ‘Mobile data’, also turn on the switch behind ‘Unlimited updates’. New photos and old changed photos are then uploaded directly via mobile internet if no WiFi is available.
