Tip: turn on automatic updates on your iPhone or iPad

IOS 13 will be released later this year, but of course we will also continue to discuss the improvements of the current iOS version. A handy (and very important) feature of iOS 12 is the option to install updates automatically. And that is a godsend for many users.

Automatic iOS updates

Updating your iOS device is extremely important, but many people forget to do this, or don’t always know that an update is available. To ensure that every user stays up to date, iOS 12 has an option to install updates automatically.

Tip: turn on automatic updates on your iPhone or iPad

In principle, you no longer have to think about updating; this just happens by itself. And that’s important, because new iOS versions include new features, bug fixes, and security vulnerabilities in the mobile operating system. Follow the steps below to install iOS updates automatically.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad;
  2. Tap on ‘General’ and then ‘Software update’;
  3. Then you will see the option ‘Automatic updates’. Tap this and make sure the switch is green. In the same screen you can see if the most recent iOS version is installed.

If you often forget to update your iPhone or iPad, it is smart to enable this function. Updates are automatically installed overnight after downloading while you are not using your iOS device. When downloading and installing updates, you must at least be connected to a WiFi network. Your iPhone or iPad must also be connected to the charger, so that your device does not go empty in the meantime.

Preparing for iOS 13

Later this year, most likely in September, the new version of iOS will be released: iOS 13. It is possible to install the public beta of iOS 13, so that you can test all the new functions. A public test version is also available of iPadOS, the operating system made specifically for the tablet.
