It is finally possible to share a photo or video from the Instagram overview on Instagram Stories. That’s how it works and these are the rules.
Share photo from overview on Instagram Stories
Within Instagram, the overview and Stories previously existed as separate entities. If users wanted to show a photo from the overview on Stories, they had to take a screenshot of the screen and post it. That is no longer necessary, because from now on you can easily share a published photo or video as a story with your followers. To do this, go through the following steps:
- Under the photo or video you want to share, tap the icon that resembles a cross between an arrow and a paper airplane;
- Choose ‘Add message to your story’;
- You will have the chance to rotate, zoom and place stickers on the image like a normal story;
- Press ‘Your story’ to publish the story.
Each post you share in this way will include the name of the original poster in the story. Your followers can tap that to go to the original post.
Doesn’t work with everyone
Does it not work? Which can. Sharing messages this way will only work if the person has a public account and allows them to share these messages.
Prevent others from sharing your messages
You can also prevent others from sharing your messages in this way. To do this, you go through the following steps:
- Go to your profile;
- Tap the gear;
- Scroll down and find under the heading ‘Privacy and security’ the option ‘Allow resharing in Stories’;
- Tap that and flip the switch so that it is no longer blue.
Download Instagram
This new feature is now being rolled out. Doesn’t it work for you yet? Then wait a few days and try again. You can download the latest version of the app via the button below in the App Store.
Check out the new emoji slider
Have you tried the new emoji slider for Instagram Stories yet? You can use this well when posting a message from the overview, to ask your followers what they think of it. This is how you use the Instagram emojislider.
