Tip: you can check a flight status with your iPhone in this way

Whether you want to know whether a flight is departing on time or has already landed: it can be useful to check a flight status in all kinds of cases. With an iPhone, you don’t need a special app for this at all.

You can easily check flight status on your iPhone

At and around the airport, everything revolves around time, and the status of flights changes regularly. In order not to have to wait for hours in an arrival or departure hall in case of delays, it is wise to check the status of a flight in advance.

There are many apps in the App Store that you can do this with, but they are not actually necessary. It is also possible to look up a flight status in iOS itself. That’s how you do it.

Tip: you can check a flight status with your iPhone in this way
  1. Open the Spotlight search on your iPhone. You do this by swiping down from the center of the screen on your home screen;
  2. Enter the flight number of the flight you want to check in the search bar. It is possible to use the code (KL1959 for example) or the written out name of an airline (Qatar Airways 3459);
  3. Select the flight you want to view under the heading ‘Flights’. Tap this for more information.

By tapping on a flight, an extensive overview automatically opens with information about that flight, and of course from which location and to which destination it is being flown. This way you can see in the status whether it is on time, delayed or still underway.

You can also see on a map how far the plane is from its final destination. Furthermore, your iPhone shows the departure and arrival times, flight duration and even the number of the baggage belt. This means you always know where you can go to pick up your bags.

The Spotlight search function is also present on the iPad and Mac, so it is also possible from these devices to check how the flight of you or someone you know is going. The search function can be found on the iPad in the same way as on an iPhone. On a Mac, tap the magnifying glass icon in the top right of the menu bar.
