The app has to do without a fancy name and is simply called ‘Amikasa & Bol.com’. The program was created by INDG, which created the Amikasa app that allows you to furnish homes. This new app is free to download for iOS. You give access to the camera and then virtually place objects in the room. The intention is that you view articles in this way as if they were in your home. This way, as a customer, you avoid having to return items if they turn out not to match the rest of the interior. At least, that’s Bol’s underlying idea.
After starting the app you will see six categories of articles: tables, armchairs, dining room chairs, sofas / seats, cabinets and lamps. By tapping on one of them, you will enter a new screen where multiple products are shown in a honeycomb-like design. When you have found an item that you like, tap it. Then point your phone at the position in the room where the object should appear.
Placing objects
The item is put away via the camera and augmented reality. With your finger you can adjust where the sofa should be placed, for example. This will give you an idea of ​​how the item will fit into the room. However, because you can resize the objects, it is difficult to determine the exact size. For that you will have to work with a measuring tape.
In total there are 120 articles in the app, which you can view in different colors. If there is an item to your taste, you can immediately place an order. For that you will be redirected to the Bol.com website in Safari, where you will be presented with the price.
VR mode
The app also has a virtual reality mode. You can then put the iPhone in VR glasses to actually see the object in your environment. In itself a nice idea, but then you have to make sure that you have VR glasses that do not block your camera. In addition, it is difficult to get something in the right place in that mode. By the way, you can do a so-called print out marker, which you put on the floor in the room.
