Typing with secret keyboard

On public computers, use the on-screen keyboard when entering sensitive information, such as passwords.

Public computers may be less secure. There is a chance that the PC in the internet café, hotel or apartment is equipped with a so-called keylogger. That is software that stores keystrokes. This makes it clear what the user is typing. Personal information, such as a password, can also be intercepted in this way. In such a situation, use the on-screen keyboard. This works with mouse clicks and a keylogger can’t do anything with that. Your personal data will then remain safe.

Every Windows PC has an on-screen keyboard. To do this, click on the icon of a keyboard in the lower right corner of the Taskbar. Isn’t this there? First activate the on-screen keyboard button. This is how it works in Windows 10:

    • Right-click on the Taskbar.
    • A menu appears. Click here Show On-Screen Keyboard Button.
    • Click the keyboard icon in the lower right corner of the Taskbar.

In Windows 11, bring out the on-screen keyboard as follows:

    • Right-click on the Taskbar.
    • click on Taskbar Settings.
    • Turn on the slider behind ‘Screen keyboard’
    • Click the keyboard icon in the lower right corner of the Taskbar.

The keyboard opens. Enter the text by clicking on the letters on the keyboard. Finished? Click the cross at the top right of the on-screen keyboard to close the on-screen keyboard.
