Understanding Google’s Search Results

Google also has to earn its money somehow. As a result, advertisements sometimes appear above the search results.

Many people equate Google’s search engine with the Internet. No wonder at a time when ‘googling’ is the verb for searching the web. That’s not bad. As long as users don’t forget that Google is a company that makes money from this. Google search results often contain advertisements. The search results regularly start with a maximum of four advertisements. These have to do with your search terms, because Google wants the results to be relevant to you.

It is nice to know in advance that these are advertisements. Businesses pay Google to be at the forefront. So always check whether the advertisement is the best result for you. Sometimes things go wrong. If you are looking for tickets for popular performances, for example, you sometimes see an advertisement for an expensive resale site instead of the place where the ‘normal’ tickets are sold. Therefore, in cases like this it is better to find out where the performance is. Then go to the corresponding site and search for ordering options.

Easily recognize ads among Google results. To the left of the website URL is the word ‘Advertisement’. The text has black letters and is bold.
