Urbanista Miami – Versatile headphones

Urbanista Miami

The Scandinavian audio brand Urbanista is not very well known here yet. That may well change, because Urbanista makes attractive-looking audio equipment such as headphones and headsets and keeps its prices modest. This also applies to these Urbanista Miami headphones.

Urbanista links its product names to large characteristic cities. For example, in our test of wireless in-ears, the Urbanista London and Urbanista Stockholm already passed. These Urbanista bluetooth headphones are named after the American city of Miami. Due to the product name, it has proved impossible to get a song other than Miami by Will Smith in my head during testing, regardless of what I put on during testing. A fact that I would like to share.

Noise canceling headphones

The Urbanista Miami are wireless over-ear headphones, with noise cancellation and ambient pass-through (a function that allows ambient noise to pass through, so that you can still get traffic or conversations with you, for example). The connection with your smartphone, tablet, PC or other device is wireless via Bluetooth 5.0. If desired, you can also connect the headphones wired via the 3.5 mm jack. Handy if you want slightly better sound quality or if the battery is empty. You charge the battery via USB-c. All cables are neatly included. There is also a hard case pouch in the box to safely take the headphones on the road. That case is a huge colossus, even though you can rotate the ear cups of the headphones to place the headphones in the case.

The ear cups and headband are comfortably finished with cushions and soft leatherette. The headphones wrap completely around your ear and are flexible, so it does not press on your ear and is comfortable for long listening sessions. The adjustment system is finished in metal and looks luxurious, unfortunately that cannot be said about the entire finish, because the outside is made of some cheap-feeling plastic.

On the left ear cup you will find the USB-C port to charge the headset and a button to turn on noise cancellation or ambient sound. On the right shell you will find the audio port and three control buttons. Sometimes it takes a while to find the buttons, and also playing the previous song by pressing the button down requires some fiddling. I had to press the button so long that the track was already far enough to restart.

The headphones are also equipped with microphones, so that you can take telephone calls and there is a sensor that pauses the music when you take off the headphones.

Sound quality Urbanista Miami

Considerable points are scored with regard to the design, wearing comfort and ease of use. In terms of sound quality, the Urbanista Miami unfortunately does not stand out. The high and low tones are a bit flat and details are often a bit lost. As a result, the music experience can be somewhat flat. There is also no Urbanista app available, so an equalizer to possibly screw up the bass sound is unfortunately not available.

In terms of sound quality, Urbanista must recognize its superior in audio brands such as Teufel and Sony. Nothing negative in itself, the sound quality can certainly not be described as cheap or tinny. The same can be said about the noise cancellation and ambient noise: these are fine, but not everything is filtered or passed.

Headphones in practice

Because the sound sounds a bit flat and in detail, the headphones are less suitable for exciting dance or jazz music. Nevertheless, all music sounds fine, and the headphones come into their own even better with audiobooks, podcasts and watching movies and series. The noise reduction is of course extra nice.

The headphones offer space for a large battery, which is very nice. Urbanista claims that you can use the battery for about 50 hours, count down ten hours when you use noise cancellation or ambient noise. In practice, these battery times are a few hours lower net. Nevertheless, you have an impressive battery life. More than enough for a long trip around the world (if ever again) or several working days.

Conclusion: Want to buy an Urbanista Miami?

If you include the price point in the calculation, for around 150 euros you have a great pair of headphones with many functions, decent sound quality, a nice design and a particularly good battery life. That’s a great price for these headphones and definitely a safe choice for everyone. The only thing I really miss is an app in which you can adjust the sound with an equalizer, because the sound is a bit on the flat side.
